MStyle Clubs supporting young gays

MStyle Khmer logo MStyle Khmer is a social support network for Cambodia’s young men who love men, helping them to lead safe, happy, successful and responsible lifestyles.

Outreach sessions are held weekly at the MStyle clubs, located around Cambodia.
The clubs are safe places where MSM can meet with friends, watch TV, join in karaoke, and at the same time learn about healthy sexual practices and choices.

Gay Pride 2012: MStyle launches new website

Today, Wednesday 16th May 2012 at Chaktuk Muk Theatre (Sisowath Quay), MStyle Khmer will launch its new website. The event is not just a presentation of the new site, there will be fun games, prizes, performances, give aways and free on site training on how to use our new website. The website launch starts at around 6pm, but doors are open from 5pm and admission is free. (Snacks are free too, by the way!). For more information please contact 077 283977.

Gay Pride Cambodia 2012The Cambodia Gay Pride week of 2012 – from Friday, May 11th till Sunday, May 20th – is full of activities: film screenings, parties, Buddhist blessings, discussions and a lot of other events. One of the funniest events is probably the first Cambodia Pride Amazing Tuk-Tuk Race, taking place on Monday afternoon on May 14th. Be sure to bring your camera as participating teams will have to pick a Pride colour and pimp up their tuk-tuk in that colour (balloons, fabric, all team members wearing that colour, etc.). Fun, fun, fun!

There are not only events and activities in Phnom Penh, but also in Siem Reap and Battambang.

Gay Life in Cambodia

Gay life in Cambodia has significantly improved over the past few years. When CamboGuide first visited the country back in 2000, there was no visible gay scene, except for some ladyboys operating in the girlie bars of Phnom Penh. Plus, the locals only referred to gays as ‘ktoey’ (ladyboys) with giggles and laughter.

To the surprise of many, in February 2004, then King Norodom Sihanouk turned out to be in favour of gay marriage. In a hand written message on his website the king said that as a “liberal democracy”, Cambodia should allow “marriage between man and man… or between woman and woman.” He said he had respect for homosexuals and lesbians and said they were as they were because God loved a “wide range of tastes.”
