Angkor Half Marathon in Siem Reap is held in December every year. The route of this race is stretched around the temples. There is no age limit of the participants, eight to eighty, everybody can run. Winning or losing does not matter at all here, as the objective is not only fun but also to collect money for the physically challenged.
Apart from the Half Marathon and a 10 kilometre Run for Men and Women, there is a 21 kilometre Wheelchair Race, and a 3 km Fun Run. Angkor Half Marathon in Siem Reap also features a Bike Race which is usually held on the previous day of the Half Marathon.
Participants come here to take part in the Bike Race and Half Marathon from almost every part of the world.
In 2011, the Angkor Half Marathon will be held on 5th of December (with the Walking and Bike Events on the day before). More information on the website of Angkor Half Marathon. Hopefully, the organization will improve safety measures, as in previous years the track was NOT closed to traffic, causing not only safety concerns, but also sometimes forcing runners to stop and wait, which is killing when you’re running.
In 2011, on June 18th, Phnom Penh had its first Half Marathon, organized by the National Olympic Council of Cambodia (NOCC), in celebration of the 117th anniversary of Olympic Day. This Half Marathon in Phnom Penh will most likely also become a yearly event to highlight the revival of Cambodia’s capital and attract more visitors to the city.
